Biography

Anna Watkins is a self – taught artist, who takes her inspiration from nature and her love of  colour. Anna paints intuitively and lets the paintings become what they want to be. She starts by choosing a palette of colours and will paint uplifting words as the first layer. These will become covered as more and more layers of paint are applied. Gradually an idea or picture will begin to take shape. Anna will then help this along with details and contrast.  She likes to paint to soothing meditation music or native american tribal music if something with higher energy is needed! Anna loves the freedom of working for herself  as it gives her the opportunity to develop as artist and also take coffee breaks in the garden when the sun shines!

Anna has sold her work both here and abroad, including Australia, America, Canada and France. She has previously exhibited and sold at the Obsidian Gallery. More recently, she was commissioned to paint the book covers for Tea at Raphael’s by local author Lyn Halvorsen and Cosmic Ordering made Easier by Ellen Watts.

Anna has worked as a freelance designer for ‘Crafts Beautiful’ and ‘Quick and Crafty’ magazines. Her book “Hand Painted Rustic Cards”, published by Search Press, was well received and got great reviews. She has also co-authored two further books, “Ultimate Card Maker” and “Greetings Cards”, published by Search Press and David and Charles.
